Kohima: A viral video of the Sports Club (SC) U-15 Nagaland girls’ football team, which is currently representing India at Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, adorning Naga traditional attire at the parade of nations during the opening ceremony of the tournament is sending the right message the world over.
Despite its loss in its first match against Sweden’s Vastera BK30, the team’s spirit is high as it gears up for two remaining matches. In another video taken after the match, the team is seen playing a ‘whisper’ game to cheer each other.
Speaking with EastMojo over a telephonic conversation, youth resources and sports adviser Zale Neikha said: “I am so proud of them. It is really good and encouraging to see them in high spirits. There are still two more matches to go, so let’s always keep hope.” Adding that the reception on their arrival was heart-warming, Neikha narrated how Swedish well-wishers generously “collected money and handed them to the girls for (their) pocket money”.
In the opening ceremony which was held at 8 pm (Swedish time) on Monday, the Naga football team led the parade of nations dressed in traditional Naga attire. The remaining two matches are scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday against Swedish teams IF Brommapojkarna and Ahus IF, respectively.
