Guwahati: A 60-year-old man was seriously injured after he got trapped under a massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall for the past few days in 11th Mile area of Jorabat, on the outskirts of Guwahati, in Assam on Tuesday.
The injured man has been identified as Hemeswar Bora.
As per sources, Bora was working at his makeshift eatery located along National Highway-37 when his legs got trapped under a huge pile of earth due to the landslide.
Meanwhile, a team from the Jorabat police outpost rushed to the spot and rescued the man with the help of locals. Bora, who sustained severe injuries in both his legs, was immediately rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and is currently undergoing treatment there.
Locals of Jorabat area in Guwahati have demanded the authorities concerned to stop illegal earth cutting in the hills on both sides of NH 37 with immediate effect.
Earlier, on several occasions, many people were injured and some even killed by massive landslides at Jorabat area, triggered by incessant rainfall and allegedly due to illegal earth cutting that happens right under the nose of the authorities concerned.
