Itanagar: A driver of a Tata Winger from Arunachal Pradesh, bearing registration AR-02-A-7277, was manhandled by some miscreants on NH-15 near Telijaan of Assam’s Dhemaji district on Monday. The vehicle was carrying passengers from Arunachal Pradesh. Cases have been registered in Pasighat and Dhemaji police stations, said reports.
The vehicle reportedly was honking continuously when the miscreants on a bike went on to speak with the driver, argued with him (driver) and then started manhandling him. One of the glasses in the back seat of the vehicle was also broken by the miscreants where some female passengers were sitting, said Dhemaji SP Rakesh Reddy, when contacted over the phone.
“We insisted the driver to file a complaint against the perpetrators but he didn’t file any,” said the SP. He also said that following few Facebook posts, the Dhemaji police have already registered a case against the miscreants.
On questioning about the reason behind the attack, Reddy said that the miscreants just took advantage of the situation, else honking on a national highway cannot be a concrete reason to manhandle a person.
Later, the Dhemaji police escorted the vehicle out of the town.

Condemning the incident, the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) in a complaint letter to the Dhemaji police has requested to take necessary action and apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest.
Sumeshwar Kaptag, who is the vice-president of TMPK, told EastMojo that these kind of people disturb the communal harmony between two neighbours. He also said that TMPK is helping Dhemaji police in the investigation.
“I request people of Assam to not encourage such awful acts and rather spread love, compassion and unity among our neighbours,” said Kaptag.
Meanwhile, the TMPK, the students’ body of the Mising community, has formed a committee to help people from Arunachal Pradesh facing issues during their travel through Dhemaji.
