Bomdila: With the monsoon having unleashed its wrath on the Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road and at Kaspi and its adjoining areas under Thrizino-Buragaon assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district on Monday, the administration on Tuesday prioritised evacuation of the injured patients and children of the Government Residential School, Kaspi, besides restoration of the surface communication from Bomdila on a war footing.
On Monday, around 2 in the afternoon, Pema Mosbu and his wife Kanchi Mosbu were swept away by the flash floods. Although a grievously injured Pema hung on to his life, his wife Kanchi wasn’t that fortunate. She has been reported to be still missing.
Later, the Maratha Light Infantry of the Army evacuated Pema to the Military Hospital in Dahung.
Meanwhile, the children of the Government Residential School in Kaspi were evacuated and sheltered at Singchung IB after their school came under the flash floods on Monday.
The Border Road Task Force (BRTF) has succeeded in restoring the road from district headquarters Bomdila to Kaspi, which is about 35 km for vehicular traffic. But it would be weeks before the BCT road is cleared for surface communication, said reports.
Meanwhile, relief materials have been distributed to the 17 affected families by the Singchung ADC. DC Sonal Swaroop informed that the 14 BRTF would be launching a Bailey bridge in place of the RCC bridge which was completely washed away flash floods on Monday.
The state public health engineering department (PHED) has hired extra hands to restore the water supply lines at Kaspi, Singchung and Nag Mandir areas but restoration of power supply at Kaspi is awaited.
Although the police and SSB have been engaged in the relief and rescue operations, the administration has also requisitioned the services of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Singchung ADC T Pada, along with circle officers G Doke and Sange Norbu and EAC (HQ) P Monpa and DSP T Jambey (SP in-charge) are monitoring the situation at the place of incident.
