Kohima: In an unprecedented move, the Nagaland government on Friday announced paternity leave for every male government employee of the state.
As per reports, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio announced the paternity leave in line with the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.
Posting from his official twitter account, the chief minister said that as per the rules, every male state government employee (including an apprentice), with less than two surviving children, will be granted paternity leave by the competent authorities.
Rio further informed that every state employee will be eligible to apply for a paternity leave of 15 days, during the confinement of his wife for childbirth, before or up to six months from the date of delivery of the child.
“Every male employee will also be paid salary equal to the pay drawn on other working days during his paternity leave,” he added.
The paternity leave may be combined with leave of any other kind and shall not be debited against the leave account and further, shall be treated as lapsed if not availed within the period.
