Rules are rules: Nagaland police clamp dept car over wrong parking

Kohima: In what must have been just another regular day for a policeman on duty, social media users appreciated and acknowledged his act after pictures of him clamping a police car parked at a restricted zone went viral on Facebook.

In the picture, the traffic policeman is seen clamping a police (Gypsy) car that was parked at a restricted zone besides the road, with the front wheels going over the recently-laid footpath. The vehicle was parked below the police headquarters in Kohima, and it blocked half of the pedestrians’ way.

While other vehicles, including a maroon Alto car and a white Maruti van, are seen besides the clamped car,  the police’s action of locking the department car’s wheels has indeed sent out a clear message of ‘supremacy of the law’ and that rules are rules, irrespective of who owns what car.

Social media users lauded the unbiased act of the responsible policeman. Needless to say, the policeman, with his oath to service under the Nagaland Police — ‘Security, Service and Sacrifice’ — is seen delivering his due.

A couple of years ago, another picture of a white police Gypsy, clamped for being parked at a restricted zone in Kohima, had gone viral.

The viral picture might seem like a deja vu to most people, as earlier in 2018, another picture of a clamped police car in Mizoram had won many hearts.

Earlier in June this year, a Sikkim politician’s car faced the music in a similar manner. The incident had taken place in Tadong area, about 6 km from the Himalayan state’s capital Gangtok, sometime after the state assembly results were announced on May 23.

According to sources, the car belonged to a ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leader, and was registered in the name of Anand Lama.
