20 villages inundated in 1st wave of floods across Assam

Guwahati: Altogether 9,902 villagers of 20 villages under six revenue circles of five districts in Assam were adversely affected due to the ongoing wave of flood in Assam till Thursday evening.

Government sources said that standing crops covering an area of 865 hectares of land in these districts have been destroyed. However, there is no report of any human casualty so far in the state.

Official sources informed EastMojo that Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat district and Jia Bharali river in Sonitpur district. Flood waters have inundated four villages under Dhemaji, one in Chirang, five in Nalbari, four in Jorhat and six in Dibrugarh, till the filling of this report.

Among the five affected villages in Nalbari district, one is at Tihu and the rest four are at Ghagrapar, while all the affected villages in Dibrugarh district are at Chabua.

According to the official sources, the flood-affected revenue circles in the state are Jonai in Dhemaji, Bijni in Chirang, Tihu and Ghagrapar in Nalbari, Jorhat West in Jorhat, Chandua in Dibrugarh district.

Meanwhile, for the betterment of the affected people, four relief camps — two in Chirang, one in Nalbari and one in Jorhat — have already been set up so far.
