Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju at his home-office in New Delhi

New Delhi: As you enter Kiren Rijiju’s home-office in New Delhi, the first thing that greets you is a huge wall hanging depicting the Preamble to the Constitution of India. Complete with LED lights for maximum illumination, the ‘showpiece’ is not there without a reason, though.

“It carries the sanctity of the position I hold and determines the value of my responsibility,” says the Union minister of state (independent charge) for youth affairs and sports.

The Preamble is an introductory statement that sets out guidelines, which guides the people of the nation, and to present the principles of the Constitution, and to indicate the source from which the document derives its authority, and meaning. The hopes and aspirations of the people are described in it.

The ‘showpiece’ bears ample testimony to that.

Rijiju is known to be a no-nonsense politician. Considered as one of the front-ranking politicians of the Northeast, the Arunachal West MP took oath as the new Union MoS on May 31.

The appointment was a promotion from his stint as a junior minister in the ministry of home affairs in the previous PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
