Aizawl: Leaders of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), an electoral alliance formed by six parties, will meet officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) over registration of the party, a party leader said on Monday.
The alliance is mulling to merge into a single political party, he added.
ZPM leader Lalmuanpuia Punte said the alliance leaders will go to New Delhi to meet the poll panel over party registration on July 2. He said that the six-party alliance is merging into one and will take effort to form the next government.
“The manifold problems of the people will be addressed and resolved once we come to power,” Punte said while addressing a meeting at the alliance office in Aizawl on Monday.

Hitting out at the MNF government headed by chief minister Zoramthanga, Punte said the state government has no clear-cut strategy to derive state’s own revenue. “Despite banning liquor, which is the main source of state’s revenue, the government is hoping to receive higher revenue in the state. People will bear the brunt of paying high taxes,” he said.
Punte also alleged that the state government put farmers at dismay as fish seeds distributed by the erstwhile Congress government free of cost, were sold to farmers with high price.
Punte also said that the MNF is facing internal dissension as many ministers of state who expected cabinet berth were unhappy for denying cabinet post and that there is intense fight for chairman in various boards and commissions among party workers.
