Himanta on treadmill: Assam minister gives live demo on fitness

Karbi Anglong: Guwahati: Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who showed tremendous energy during his rallies in the recently-held Lok Sabha elections in the state, is once again hogging the limelight.

In a video that he shared on Twitter, the ‘rockstar’ BJP leader is seen running on a treadmill during the inauguration of a sports complex in Karbi Anglong district. By using the exercising device for a couple of minutes, without showing even a bit of exertion, Sarma has once again wowed his supporters and followers.

“The Re 25 cr 6,000-capacity New Sports Complex at Dongkamukam, I inaugurated today has an indoor stadium, pavilion, gallery, & a state-of-art gym,” Sarma wrote in the Twitter post accompanying the video.

Wearing a lavender kurta and white pyjama, Sarma was seen running on the treadmill at the newly-inaugurated sports complex at Dongkamukam in Karbi Anglong on Sunday.

While some people may criticise such actions as publicity stunts, not too may would be aware of the fact that despite his busy schedule, Sarma, who is also the president of Badminton Association of India, and vice-president of Badminton Asia Council, always spends about an hour in court and plays badminton at night.

During the recent Lok Sabha elections, apart from the roadshows covering many kilometres on a daily basis, the Assam minister, who is also the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), showed his dance skills during rallies. He became the talk of social media after he started videos where he was seen breaking into impromptu jigs on a jingle of the BJP — ‘Aakou Ebar, Modi Sarkar (Once again Modi government)’.
