Guwahati: Union minister of state for youth affairs & sports and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju has been named the new chairperson of Young Leaders Connect (YLC), an initiative to provide a common platform for achievers from the Northeast.
Rijiju will take over from former Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia at the seventh edition of YLC, which is likely to take place in Delhi this year.
The core objective of YLC, which was started under the aegis of YouthNet Nagaland in 2011, was to bring together young leaders and achievers from different fields in and outside Northeast with the aim of inspiring and aiding the aspiring youth of the region.
YLC also brings together leaders and change makers from different spheres to brainstorm about the future of Northeast India. The objective is also to identify and strengthen the role of the region in nation building and also act as a catalyst to grow and develop the region.
Further, YLC supports the North East Entrepreneurship Fellowship programme for 25 entrepreneurs from the eight states.
The programme, which is in collaboration with IEF Foundation and YouthNet, helps the entrepreneurs with focused training in running and growing their business, exposure to markets and new business across the country. It also provides a platform to meet, network and learn from established business leaders.
