Guwahati: Nazira police station in Assam’s Sivasagar district was declared as the best police station in the state by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) in its Annual Ranking of Police Stations for 2018.
In a recently conducted survey, the MHA awarded the model police station with a “certificate of excellence” after picking up two from Assam, the other being Rangjuli police station in Goalpara district.
As per sources, a two-member team of the MHA visited the state a few months ago and ranked the police stations based on their quality-control performance based on specific parameters. The team mainly examined upon the security arrangement, cleanliness, cops’ approach to dealing with visitors and attending to their problems or grievances and preferences being offered to them while attending their complaints, maintenance of records and their upgrade, performance of policemen in terms of efficiency, sensitivity and presentation, feedback of local people as well as visitors, in the police stations, among others.
Speaking on the achievements, an official of Nazira Police station said that the central team even communicated to locals of the area, in verification to the data obtained from the station. “Based on the physical verification and data entry comparisons, our outpost was declared the best,” he added.
The home ministry further cross-checked office materials to the data found in the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) official website about the police stations.
“After comparing our office materials to NCRB’s data, our police station was declared best,” the police official added.
