Agartala: The Tripura government has launched a new ‘Academic Inspection’ initiative under the ‘Notun Disha’ (new direction) project, under which 800 undergraduate and postgraduate teachers will be given the charge of ‘leaders’ for the next three years to look after all kinds of academic-related aspects from Class III to VIII in 4,446 schools across the state.
This was announced by Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath while talking to media persons in Agartala recently.
“The District Education Officers (DEO) and Inspector of Schools (IoS) had performed their duties and had inspected the administrative works. The department will not invite teachers with any kind of enticement and, therefore, those who come forward and register their names would be given preference by the department till June 15,” Nath said.
Earlier, as reported by EastMojo on March 4, Nath informed the media in Agartala that the state government had decided to provide laptops to 800 teachers under the ‘Notun Disha’ (new direction) project under which they would be provided training.
As part of the new initiative, the education department will appoint 800 government teachers as academic leaders for ‘academic inspection’ and their postings will be made at IoS, DEO and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) levels. After the appointment of these 800 teachers, those vacancies will be filled by substitute teachers.

Teachers will be posted in block headquarters for three years and after that a new team will come. They will become the in-charge of 8-10 schools and posted as per their preferences, he added.
“These teachers will get all kinds of online facilities for betterment of academic inspection. They will have to deliver at least 10 lectures in those schools per month. They will also have to sit on the last bench and see whether the teacher taking the class is imparting education correctly or not. They will get laptops which they will have to return to the department at the end of three years and also get TLM items,” Nath further said.
Citing the statistics of teachers’ requirement to look after 4,446 schools in Tripura, Nath said that a total of 792 UG and PG teachers and eight additional teachers at the SCERT level would be required for the next three years.
He further added that these 800 teachers would work to see whether students from Class III to Class VIII have the ‘basic skills on study’, ‘ability to read books’, ‘understanding of mathematics’ ‘initial stage’, ‘solve basic problems of mathematics’, etc.
