An-32 crash: Bad weather hampering ops to retrieve mortal remains

Itanagar: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday morning once again started its rescue efforts to retrieve the mortal remains of the 13 air warriors who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

However, the progress has got hampered due to inclement weather in the area, said IAF reports.

“Cheetah & ALH Helicopters are on standby and are waiting to commence operations once the weather improves. At present there are low clouds associated with rain in the area. #IAF in making all efforts to retrieve the mortal remains of the deceased air-warriors,” the IAF tweeted on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the IAF personnel are also in constant contact with the families of these air-warriors and are being updated regularly about the ongoing recuse operations. “They are also being explained the challenges about the weather,” the IAF reports added.

On Thursday morning, eight members of the rescue team reached the crash site of the ill-fated AN-32 aircraft that was flying from Jorhat in Assam to the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh on June 3 when it went off the radar of ground stations.

According to IAF, the rescue team did not find any survivors.

The air warriors who lost their lives in the tragic crash are W/C GM Charles, S/L H Vinod, F/L R Thapa, F/L A Tanwar, F/L S Mohanty, F/L MK Garg, WO KK Mishra, Sgt Anoop Kumar, Cpl Sherin, LAC SK Singh, LAC Pankaj, NC(E) Putali & NC(E) Rajesh Kumar, said the IAF.
