Aizawl: At least 25,469 people have benefited from the old-age pension under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS).
Social welfare minister Dr K Beichhua informed the state legislature on Wednesday that altogether 19,268 people between 60 and 79 years of age and 6,201 old age people of 80 years and above have been given old-age pension grants.
He said that people between 60 and 79 years are given a monthly stipend of Rs 250 and Rs 550 to people of 80 years and above. The beneficiaries are not given on a monthly basis due to delay in funds from the Centre, he added.
Meanwhile, rural development minister Lalruatkima informed the assembly that a total of Rs 411.945 lakh have been released to Mizoram’s eight districts under MGNREGS for the fiscal 2019-2020.
An average of 48 days’ works were arranged, of which 24 days have been worked in average in all the districts as on May 31, he said.
Higher and technical education minister Dr R Lalthangliana also informed the state legislature that administrative approval amounting to Rs 522 lakh has been issued for construction of 18 college buildings under the erstwhile Congress government’s New Economic Development Programme (NEDP).
He said that first installment of the project is being issued to the colleges.
