Apprehended members of the anti-talk faction of the Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger

Guwahati: In a joint operation undertaken by the police forces of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts in Assam, seven militants of the Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were arrested on Tuesday.

The joint operation was conducted by the special task force of the police over 15 days in both the districts, following which, the rebels of the militant outfit were nabbed from different parts of the two districts on Tuesday.

The key members of the KPLT were arrested after over 15 days of a joint operation conducted by the police forces of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts

The arrested KPLT members were identified as self-styled commander-in-chief Mensing Tokbi, secretary Mensong Kramsa, Ritesh Terong, Bistar Hanse, Hedsing Phangso, Jiten Kro and Harsing Ronghi. They were involved in a number of criminal activities including murder, kidnapping, extortion and rhino poaching.

Security forces have also recovered four pistols besides magazines, several rounds of live cartridges, mobile phone handsets, SIM cards and extortion letters, among other objectionable items, from the possession of the arrested militants.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered by the security forces from the arrested KPLT rebels
