Guwahati: Women’s participation as allied workers in the handloom sector is an unutterable achievement, which needs to be recognised, appreciated and promoted. With this idea, leading fashion designers of Assam came together to present the third edition of ‘Preview’. a fashion event, at The Lily Hotel in Guwahati on Saturday.
Organised by designer Papli Gogoi of Fashion Bloom in collaboration with Deepjyoti Baishya of GIFT and Darshana Phukan from Style Amor, the event showcased the creations of various designers which focused on the rich tradition of the handloom industry in Northeast.
With the idea of empowering women through the handloom sector, Gogoi expressed gratitude to the women who work behind the glamour of fashion industry and recognised two weavers from Assam for their contribution to the sector. “The award is a small tribute to recognise the craftsmanship of the women working in their homes,” she added.
Speaking with EastMojo, designer Darshana Phukan said, “This season solely focuses on the promotion of handloom weavers from across the region. I am extremely excited to be a part of it.”

Preview also saw the amalgamation of innovative and ingenious designers like Mousumi Borah, Anupam Bharali, Madhumita M Sharma, Ankita Choudhury Mahanta, Kamal Lauchan Boruah, Lalrinpari Ralte, Kushbu Marium, Pratishruti and Srishti.
Kamal Lauchan Borah, founder of Vedica Etiquette, said, “I am an advocate of sustainable fashion and so are my creations. Moreover, I am inspired by nature and I intend to give back what we take from it.”

The designs showcased some cutting-edge aesthetic pieces, dazzling the audience along with the occasional flash of the camera. The models stomped the runway with equal finesse and poise doing justice to the creations with Amrita Dutta, Mrs West Asia Universe and Mrs Universe Fabulous, as the ‘Face of Preview’ for this season.
