Tura: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma held his government’s first cabinet meeting in Tura constituency of West Garo hills district with ministers and top bureaucrats of the state on Monday.
In its first meeting held outside the capital city, Shillong, the cabinet decided on a series of issues related to the hill state.
Some of the issues that were addressed in the MDA-led cabinet meeting included approval of the amendment of Meghalaya Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education 2011 in conformity to the amendment of central rules to Right to Education.
In an interesting development, the cabinet also decided to have one minister in every district for one year to have systematic departmental review meetings with the district heads.
It further decided on to have solid waste management in the hill state under Solid Waste Management Policy of the Urban Affairs department that will be put under effect very soon.
The cabinet meet also decided upon to help the young and talented entrepreneurs of State as proposed earlier by the government.
Later in the day, the CM, while interacting with Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the region at the SMELC Conference Hall, appealed people to revolutionise the rural economy in state. “Every single person in our state should have livelihood and be productive,” he expressed.
Stating that Meghalaya is a rural economy, Sangma said that in order to promote the rural economy there is a need to focus on the people living in villages and thereby upscale the economic condition of the people of the region.
Community Investment Fund (CIF), were distributed to respective village organisations of the five districts of Garo Hills and selected community cadres were also awarded by the chief minister at the event that was organised by the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Shillong in collaboration with NRLM in Tura.
