Diphu: Aiming to become a garbage-free district, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) distributed house-to-house garbage collection vans in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Saturday.

Working under initiative of PM Narendra Modi’s flagship Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, KAAC chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang formally distributed the garbage collection vans among the 10 area-level federation for self-help groups in the district. Each of the 10 ALFs was provided with one garbage collection vehicle by the council.

Speaking on the occasion, the KAAC CEM appealed the people to try and keep the urban area of the district clean just like their home premises. “I appeal to everyone to keep the urban or town areas clean just like our own home premises”, he said.

Lauding PM Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Ronghang expressed that the PM himself is an inspiring example for all of us as he holds a broom and clean the streets without thinking of his position.

“If a PM of the country can come out and clean the streets, why we citizens are not doing it,” he asked.

The state government also provided one Cesspool truck, one compactor truck and 10 trailers for Diphu town under the Swach Bharat initiative in the district.

Adding to it, the Numaligarh Refinery Limited has donated four tipper trucks to the hill town of district.

The event held at Diphu club of Karbi Anglong was also attended by local MP Horensing Bey, Diphu Municipality Board (DMB) chairman, Rah Kro ; ViceC hairperson , Mera Tissopi and KAAC principal secretary Mahadanada Hazarika.
