Tripura schools to have centralised question papers from this year

Agartala: In a move to bring equal quality of education across schools in the state, the Tripura education department has decided to frame centralised question papers for Classes III to IX and XI from the ongoing academic session.

Speaking to reporters, education minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the achievement and academic performance of the students can be evaluated through setting up of a standard question papers of the examination conducted by the schools. Hence, centralised question papers framed by expert teachers would give inputs invariably on how to improve learning in students.

“The education department had decided that the question papers will be designed centrally for all classes from III to IX and XI for all government and government-aided schools in Tripura. This technique or system will uphold the uniformity in conducting school examinations too,” Nath said.

A special technical examination unit or centralised examination unit would be set up under directorate of secondary education to execute the activities related to the said examination unit. The special centralised examination unit will be strengthened with deployment of staff, expert teachers, officials and other infrastructure facilities at the earliest.

The academic staff deployed in the central examination unit will design question papers, upload standard unit test and test papers, analyse outcomes of test scores and make changes to workbooks, training modules and pedagogy accordingly.

They will be sent for technical training in techniques of designing an effective question paper to various specialised NGOs or organisations outside the state. They will also visit the technical examination unit set up by other state governments. There will also be a uniform timetable for examinations announced from headquarters for the entire state for all government and government-aided schools from Class III to Class IX and Class XI.

On the other hand, the ministry of human resource development (HRD) gave approval for launching pre-school education in 67 JB, SB, High and Higher Secondary schools during 2019-20 for providing pre-primary education facilities in eight districts of Tripura where such facilities were not available.

The Project Approval Board (PAB) of the Samagra Shiksha Abhijaan (SSA), Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of HRD in its meeting for approval of annual work plan and budget 2019-20 recommended to launch pre-school education in 67 schools, said the education minister in a press briefing at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday evening.

The district-wise number of schools are — eight in North Tripura district, four in Unakoti district, 10 each in Dhalai, Gomati and South Tripura districts, five in Khowai district, 11 in West Tripura district and nine in Sepahijala district, he added.

Nath said, “All the Block Project Coordinators (Inspectors of Schools) would take appropriate steps immediately for making the pre-school education of the respective schools under their jurisdiction operational from July 1.”

“Moreover, these schools are located at every block and nagar panchayats wherever there are high enrolments of students in those schools,” he added.
