Itanagar: Keeping his intentions straight and clear that welfare of people would come before anything else in his government, the first thing that Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu did on Sunday morning after assuming office was to extend the maternity leave and child care leave benefits to female contingency and contractual staff in the state.

Earlier, the maternity and child care leave was only given to regular government employees in Arunachal and the contingency and contractual staff were debarred of such benefits.

Considering the genuineness of the case, the CM cleared the file under which the contingency and contractual female staff serving in various capacities in the state government will now get 180 days of maternity benefit and 60 days of child care leave.

The decision of the Khandu government will benefit approximately 20,000-plus female contingency and contractual employees spread across the state in various departments.
