Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu called on governor Brig (retd) BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on Sunday and tendered his resignation along with the council of ministers.
The governor accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and the council of ministers to perform their duties as caretakers till the new government is sworn in.
Under the provisions of Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India, the governor also accepted the advice of the cabinet and signed the order dissolving the sixth state assembly with immediate effect.
The governor conveyed his appreciation to Khandu for successfully running the state during his tenure as the chief minister. If sources are to be believed, Khandu is likely to be sworn in on May 29.
Earlier, the state cabinet of the present government headed by chief minister Khandu held its last meeting.

At the outset, the cabinet observed two minutes’ silence to mourn the killing of Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh and ten others in an ambush near Bogapani in Tirap district on Tuesday. The Cabinet remembered Aboh for his services to the people and strongly condemned the dastardly act which claimed 11 precious lives including that of Aboh.
While condoling the death, the cabinet expressed its solidarity with the bereaved family members.
