Agartala: The headquarters of the 12th battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) at Chakmaghat in West Tripura district is on the boil after allegations of assault on two jawans by their senior colleagues came to the fore.

Two separate videos of the jawans being attacked are circulating over the Internet and have now apparently gone viral on social media.

According to reports, Rifleman Jagadish Prasad Chawra was attacked by about six to seven men with lathis and iron rods on May 11. Although he managed to escape from the battalion headquarters to save his life, he has been allegedly getting threats ever since. Finally, he had to flee to his home town in Haryana, said reports.

The rifleman mentioned the names of Nayek Subedar Pradeep Chandra Ray, Nayek Subedar Bipul Ranjan Dey, BHM Raju Dhar, Nayek Satbrata Sinha, Maheswar Das and Babul Ghosh and said they attacked him for no reason. They also reportedly warned other jawans to remain silent or face the same consequence.

Another rifleman, Bhojbeer Singh Chouhan, also faced a similar assault on May 12, a day after Chawra was attacked.

Chouhan, who hails from Muraina district in Madhya Pradesh, was allegedly attacked by the same group in a similar manner while he was performing his duty. After sustaining bullet injuries in 2011, Chouhan was only given casual office work.

Chouhan, who reportedly met the battalion commandant Rati Ranjan Debnath and reported the incident to him, was allegedly thrown out of his office after instruction from the CO before being attacked by the same group on the night of May 12.

Both the jawans have urged Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to take necessary action against those involved in the incident.
