Bhubaneswar: With Odisha reeling under the aftermath of Cyclone Fani that made its landfall in the coastal state on May 3, relief funds and aids affected victims are pouring in from all quarters, starting from political leaders to Bollywood celebrities.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced that he will donate a year’s salary to the victims of Cyclone Fani that left a trail of devastation in the state.
Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar, too, lent a helping hand towards the affected families by donating Rs 1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who conducted an aerial survey on Monday to assess the loss and destruction caused by the devastating cyclone announced an additional relief fund amounting to about Rs 1 crore to the victims.
Earlier, the Central government had released a relief fund of Rs 381 crore for the cyclone-hit state.
The death toll due to Cyclone Fani mounted to 34 in Odisha on Sunday, two days after it caused widespread damage in the coastal region and left hundreds grappling with water shortage and power cuts.
Significantly, telecom and water services are partially restored in Bhubaneswar and Puri while work is on war footing to get back the power connections as early as possible in the other affected areas.
