Aizawl: Mizoram governor Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday urged the state government to give top priority to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of doubling farmer’s income by 2022.
Interacting with heads of several departments at Raj Bhavan, Mukhi said that focus should be made for effective implementation of various Centrally Sponsored programmes and schemes such as Doubling Farmers Income by 2022, Swachh Bharat Mission, Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DUGJY) and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the state.
He suggested that each districts should be assigned annual targets, monitoring work done at district levels and all agriculture and its allied departments should work in close coordination.
The governor urged the officials to take all possible steps to ensure that all cultivable lands are cultivated and that at least two different varieties of crops are produced every year.
He expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmer’s income by 2022 can be achieved in Mizoram and all other North Eastern states with the renewed efforts of the government and the farmers.
Mukhi further urged the officials to take up intensive and extensive monitoring of schemes implemented by the government to ensure that targeted households are thoroughly covered and that beneficiaries actually utilized services rendered by the government. He suggested that officials should make assessments in the remote areas where resources are not readily available and examine ground realities, identify problem and challenges faced by the public and work towards addressing such problems.
The meeting was attended by secretaries, directors, and other top officials from Public Health Engineering, Power and Electricity, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Horticulture, Irrigation and Water Resources Departments and also representatives from Mizoram University.
