Kohima: The Army alleges that the NSCN (IM) has occupied an undesignated campsite near Sihai Khunou/Khamasom, Ukhrul in Manipur, and despite notice served to them, the camp is yet to be vacated.

In a statement issued by the PRO, Defence, Kohima said, “During the routine aerial recce on April 25, 2019, some suspected temporary hutment type structures were observed in the forest, in gen area Sihai Khunou/Khamasom, Ukhrul . Troops deployed to verify and later confirmed the existence of an unauthorised camp of NSCN (IM) in that area after which the Commander through the villagers and Pastor informed the NSCN(IM) cadres to vacate the camp immediately.”

It statement further said that the chairman, Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) notified about the “existence of unauthorised camp of NSCN(IM)” on April 26, 2019 at around 6 pm by IG Assam Rifles. Later, on April 27, a confirmation was received wherein the chairman CFMG had instructed the group to immediately vacate the NSCN (IM) camp.

“The area has been reinforced by additional troops and the unauthorised camp is under constant surveillance by air and other means. Aerial reconnaissance on April 27 morning revealed that the camp has not been vacated,” it alleged.
On Monday, villagers were sent to the campsite where they “met SS Lt Col David Rambo who is awaiting instructions from Hebron”.

“Despite extreme restraint shown by Assam Rifles troops, no action has been taken by NSCN (IM) to vacate the camp. This is a serious violation of Ceasefire Ground Rule by NSCN (IM). The onus for further escalation rests with NSCN (IM) hierarchy, if the unauthorised camp is not vacated immediately.”
