Aizawl: Zo Ri-mawi International, a Mizoram-based charity group has transformed its dream into reality by launching its children’s education sponsorship programme.
The Children’s Educational Sponsorship programme was inaugurated by Tobias Bende, a German philanthropist, on March 5.
The charity group begun sponsoring economically backward students, one each in five schools — Govt Rev Thianga Primary School, Govt KM High School, Govt Salem Middle School, Presbyterian English School, Thingsulthliah and Adventist English School — from the current academic session 2019-2020, the organisation’s vice-president C Luri said.
She said that the organisation will bear all the educational expenses of the students.
“Initially, we will give sponsorship to the students, some of whom are now in primary school, till Class 12,” she said, adding if there are promising students, they will be aided till graduation.
The group president Lalrozama Ralte said that separate budget estimate was prepared for each school children and the organisation is planning to assist the students in getting jobs. He said a monthly review will be held with teachers and parents to assess the progress of the students.
Zo Ri-mawi International was formed in 2013 basically as charity group to help the needy children. It drew membership not only from the country, but also across the globe.
The group organised charity event on World Cancer Day (February 4) and Children’s Day (November 14) every year.
Apart from this, the group also used to organise charity concert and collected donation from people to help the needy students.
