Guwahati: A CRPF jawan from Assam was martyred in a gun battle with Maoists in Jharkhand’s Bhelbha Ghat forest area around 6 am on Monday morning.

The news of the death of Biswajit Chauhan, 24, hailing from Puthimari Gaon of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district of the state, has left the residents of the state and its surrounding areas in a state of shock and pain.

As per reports, three Maoists were also gunned down in the fierce encounter between the security forces and militants. Chauhan, who joined the armed forces four years ago, was a cadet of the 7th battalion of the CRPF.

Meanwhile, the people of Kalaigaon have urged the government to bestow honour to the soldier in line with the Pulwama martyrs.
