Konyak Naga women make their way into Guinness World Records

Kohima: Succeeding in their attempt to create the ‘largest Konyak traditional dance’, Nagaland has now offiicially made it to the world map with the latest official inclusion in the Guinness World Records.

In a press release dated April 10, the Konyak Union announced the result from the Guinness World Records with the official declaration that read, “The Konyak Union is the Guinness World Records holder for the title Largest Konyak Traditional Dance consisting of 4,687 participants.”

Speaking with EastMojo, Chingwang Konyak, an organiser of the event, said: “Most of our emotions happened on that day. It is a huge sigh of relief. There was a major coordination between so many people from the dancers, management team to the whole tribe and everyone was anticipating the result. It is a relief and of course with immense pride.”

Earlier on April 5, the attempt was made where 4,700 women were reported to have attempted dancing for 5:01 minutes. However, with the official announcement from the Guinness World Records, it was stated that there were 4,687 participants at a time record of 5:01 minutes.

Konyak women clad in traditional attire grooved in rhythm to a traditional number during the last day of the three-day long Aoleng Mini Hornbill Festival in Mon town on Friday. Organised under the theme, ‘Empowering women for cultural heritage’, the day was marked to create women empowerment while preserving culture and tradition by creating a footprint for the future generations.
