Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) chief Zoramthanga on Wednesday said that the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and Congress are not a big threat to the MNF’s prospect.
He was touring northern villages near Assam border on Wednesday.
Addressing a function at Vairengte on the Mizoram-Assam border, Zoramthanga said the prime time of ZPM was over. He said that though the ZPM has attacked both MNF and Congress severely, it has worked with the latter and “I came to learn about the real nature of ZPM now”.
Zoramthanga slammed the Congress as the only party, which has brought death to several youths and turned many women into widow and children into orphan by selling alcohol. He said that the Congress has been thrown out of power because people were sick of its rule.
Hitting out at ZPM and Congress, Zoramthanga said that the Congress, who sold alcohol, and ZPM, who instigated the Congress to sell liquor, are now working together and people will not vote for them because of their bad performances.
“The ZPM and Congress are not a big challenge for the MNF in the upcoming polls,” he said. The rebel leader turned politician claimed that many ZPM workers including their top leaders have recently joined MNF. “Even as the ZPM and Congress claimed that they forged alliance under the pretext of issue based, people don’t welcome them and understand their alliance,” he said.
He said that the ZPM-Congress combine was raising the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue to tarnish the MNF’s prospect. “We strongly opposed to the CAB for which the cabinet and state legislature pass resolutions opposing the bill. I have also met home minister Rajnath Singh two times over the issue,” he said.
Zoramthang also expressed confidence that his party would win both the Lok Sabha polls and assembly by-election because the party nominees are no less inefficient than other candidates.
