Agartala: Election fever has caught on in Tripura with star campaigners from both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress scheduled to land in the state from the weekend onwards.
The Congress’ list is star-studded, with All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, general secretary of AICC, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, AICC secretary Sachin Piliot, national spokesperson Rocky Bul Hussain and former actress Nagma Moraji, among others, all set to campaign in the state ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
On the other hand, for the BJP candidates, the star campaigners include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and national secretary Ram Madhav, among various other prominent leaders.
While the PM is scheduled to visit the state in the first week of April, the campaign date for Amit Shah is yet to be finalised.
Leaving no stone unturned, both the parties are determined to score the two Lok Sabha seats in the state.
While the BJP has been paying extra emphasis on Northeast ever since it came to power at the Centre in 2014, the Congress too is equally resolute, given the fact that it has fielded over 15 senior and party heavyweights in the state ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The competition between the political parties in the state it at the peak since the dates for the Lok Sabha elections was declared. It is also the first time that the ruling government is getting tough competitions in the Lok Sabha elections.
