Aizawl: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM)-Congress combine nominee Lalnghinglova Hmar on Monday launched a scathing attack on BJP president Amit Shah over the latter’s remark that the BJP, if re-elected, would re-introduce Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Addressing a campaign kickoff at Vanapa hall here, Hmar accused Shah of showing disrespect to the people of entire Northeast when he said the BJP will re-introduce citizenship bill, if it returns to power.
He said the BJP president, while addressing a rally at Lakhimpur in Assam on February 17, had said that his party would table the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Parliament afresh if they returned to power at the Centre.
“Shah could have spoken such words in other parts of the country. Making such abusive comment in the very soil of Northeast was a grave insult to the people of the region,” Hmar said.
Hmar, who was named by ZPM and Congress as people’s candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat, alleged that the BJP led NDA government was trying to suppress Christian minorities.
He said that the BJP was trying to violate the secular fabric of the country by attempting to introduce citizenship bill and uniform civil code in the name of “one nation, one religion.”
Hmar alleged that apart from saffronisation of Indian universities, the BJP government also tried to manipulate important institutions like Reserve Bank of India and Election Commission.
Slamming the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) for being part of NDA government, Hmar said it must withdraw support to the BJP led NEDA if it really opposed to Citizenship bill.
Hmar, who is now 42, said he will give hundred per cent of his might for the state of Mizoram during his prime time as youth if he is elected to Lok Sabha.
He said that the country is broadly divided into two camps — NDA and the UPA and he will be voted by people because he is with non-BJP side.
