Gangtok: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has announced its candidates for nine constituencies while retaining two sitting MLAs and party heavyweights Kunga Nima Lepcha and Sonam Lama. Party president PS Golay declared the first list of candidates during a public meeting at Hee Gaon, Maneybong-Dentam constituency in West Sikkim.

The candidates featured in the list include Dr MK Sharma from Singtam-Khamdong, Samdup Lepcha from Lachen-Mangan and MN Sherpa from Daramdin, who were the party’s contenders during 2014 elections. Sangay Lepcha from Yuksam-Tashiding, RK Basnet from Yangang-Rangang, Ganesh Rai from Namchi-Singithang and Chungkipu Lepcha from Dzongu are the new faces in the list.

During the public meeting, party president Golay said that the people of Sikkim must oust the undeclared monarchy of 25 years in the state. “SKM does not need 25 years. Give us an opportunity to run the government for only five years. In these five years, we will seize and auction the ill-gotten assets of the corrupt and with that money, deposit Rs 5 lakh in bank account of each Sikkimese,” he added.

Golay called the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) corrupt and warned the masses against the party saying that since elections are coming, they’ll be out buying votes “with the money looted from Sikkim”.

He urged the voters to give a chance to SKM as “we want to make a new Sikkim by bringing a system change in the State. We want to give justice to the people of Sikkim by running a government which is transparent”.

Golay also countered the allegations leveled by the ruling party that SKM party has been sold to outsiders. The SKM has never been sold to anyone but it is the SDF party which has been sold to UPA and NDA, he said.
