At least 50 people were illegally awarded Land Settlement Certificates in the area during Congress rule, alleges state revenue minister Lalruatkima
Aizawl: The Mizoram cabinet has resolved to cancel all the Land Settlement Certificates (LSC) given to some private for owning a plot of land on Assam Rifles headquarters in Aizawl, an official said on Saturday.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Zoramthanga on late Friday discussed about the shifting of Assam Rifles headquarters from Aizawl to Zokhawsang and land “patta” being illegally awarded to some individual land owners for owning a plot on Assam Rifles land.
The meeting unanimously decided to take immediate step to legally cancel all the private LSCs on area where Assam Rifles headquarters is presently located, the official said.
State revenue minister Lalruatkima alleged that at least 50 people were illegally awarded Land Settlement Certificates on Assam Rifles’ land during the Congress rule. He said the earlier MNF government had passed a legislation prohibiting issuance of LSC on Assam Rifles’ land in Aizawl.
On February 19, the Union ministry of home affairs issued a notification directing Assam Rifles to shift its battalion headquarters from the heart of Aizawl to Zokhawsang by May 31.
Zokhawsang is located about 15 km east of Aizawl.
Assam Rifles headquarters has been in the heart of Aizawl, perching on a vast stretch of land, since 1917. The MNF government led by its founder president Laldenga had demanded the shifting of the battalion headquarters to Zokhawsang in 1988 after the security forces killed seven civilians.
