Local Mizo football club to take on Kolkata giant ATK today

This is the second home match being hosted by Chhinga Veng FC in the ensuing I-League season

Aizawl: Chhinga Veng Football Club (CVFC), one of the most promising local clubs from Mizoram in the ensuing Hero I-League second division, will take on Kolkata giant ATK (R) at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl on Thursday. This is the second home match being hosted by Chhinga Veng FC in the ensuing I-League season.

Defeating Manipur's best TRAU last week, Chhing Veng FC is now leading the table with 10 points in Group C.

Both the teams have played for four matches and Thursday battle will be the deciding match for ATK (R), which is currently at third after Chhinga Veng FC and Rainbow in Group C and holds 7 points.

The three others teams in the group are TRAU (4th position), Mohammedan (5th Position) and Jamshedpur (R) occupied bottom of the tally with no points.

Thursday’s match will be manned by the first Mizo Match Commissioner Lalrawngbawla of Aizawl's Bungkawn locality.

Chhinga Veng FC was established in 1985.

In 2016, Chinga Veng won Mizoram's 1st Division league and qualified for the Mizoram Premiere League (MPL) after winning the MPL playoff. Since then, there is no turning back for the local club.

Chhinga Veng won the Independence Day tournament, the oldest football cup tournament in the state in 2017. It continue to carry its reputation forward by winning MFA super cup in the same year.

In 2017 again, Chhing Veng scripted history in Mizoram winning first division of Mizoram Premier League, the highest football tournament in the state, by thrashing former national champion Aizawl Football Club to make it a treble.

In the next season it started where they left off in the previous season, by winning Independence Day tournament and MFA Super cup 2018.

Chhinga Veng finished runners–up in 2018–19 Mizoram Premier League by losing to I-League champion Aizawl FC in penalty shoot-out in the final match.

Chhinga Veng entered the national league this year by competing in 2018–19 I-League second division.
