These events not only allow them to break the monotony of academic life, but also let students to showcase their talent and make the most of workshops and other extra-curricular activities.
Over the years, these festivals have come up from just being a conventional cultural event to something that attracts a large number of visitors, apart from students.
Pyrokinesis, the annual cultural fest of the Assam Engineering College (AEC) located in Guwahati in Assam, is one such event. This year, the four-day festival was organised around the theme, ‘Fiesta-De-90's: Nostalgia of the Golden Era’.
The four-day event is more than a festival; it features activities ranging from fashion shows, singing competitions, quiz shows and debate competition to dance shows, sports activities and food stalls, among others.
One of the primary events of the festival, however, remained Pyrotechnix -- the battle of the bands -- that started on February 20. Several bands from across the region took part in the much-awaited competition. In the end, only a few bands such as Big Mouth Small Foot, Vibran4, Beyond Singularity, Wreckless Shadow, Last Train to Paradise, Necroscope and Augmentation could make it to the finals. While Vibran4 from Haflong eventually claimed the top spot, Wreckless Shadow from Shillong were adjudged runner-up.
To add to the charm of the festival this year, EastMojo conducted the grand finale of ‘60 Seconds of Fame’ at Pyrotechnix where top six selected artistes across the Northeast region got to showcased their talents on stage on February 22. The grand finale was an amalgamation of various talents such as parkour artistes, musicians and actors.
The results of ‘60 Seconds of Fame’ will be based on online voting and will be declared by the first week of March.
Alongside the talent platform, EastMojo also conducted 'Rockosaurus', a quiz competition based on rock music.
