Kohima: In its move to create awareness against the HIV/AIDS on masses, the Nagaland State Aids Control Society (NSAC) organised the 1st northeast multimedia campaign here.
Attended mostly by students, the event garnered a huge crowd at Khouchiezie, Kohima with performance by prominent Naga artistes like Alobo Naga, Nise Meruno, Tetseo sisters, Dreamz Unlimited and so on.
With the theme “North East United Against HIV and AIDS”, the event witnessed participation by all states from the region.
Minister of health and family welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom was the chief patron at the event. Addressing the gathering, Phom thanked National AIDS Control Organisation(NACO) for entrusting the state to hold the “maiden initiative “.
Concerning the state’s initiative, Phom stated “the legislatures Have been contributing a sum of Rs. 1Lakh each to the Legislatures Forum on AIDS for the last ten years and has committed to support till March 2019”
Highlighting the state’s initiative to eradicate HIV and AIDS epidemic by 2030, Phom stated that the ‘Test and Treat Policy’ was launched to ensure treatment for all but with the repeated shortage of drugs, easy access to treatment was interrupted. He, therefore, urged the support of NACO in this regard. He further mentioned that the infrastructure required is ready for the viral load machine and urge NACO to facilitate the installation at the earliest for the benefit of the PLHIV on treatment. He further stated that the passing of HIV and AIDS bill 2017 is a landmark achievement and the state is in process of working out the implementation modalities.
