Sikkim: SDF to field new faces in 50% of seats in upcoming polls

Ruling party also proposes to give 30% tickets to women, announces CM Pawan Kumar Chamling

Gangtok: The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in Sikkim has decided to field new faces in 50% of the seats in the upcoming assembly elections in the state, chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling said.

As per reports, the party also proposes to give 30% tickets to women.

There are 32 Assembly seats in Sikkim, elections for which will be held sometime in April or May, as per reports.

As per Chamling, the SDF will declare its candidates soon after the announcement of poll dates by the Election Commission. Chamling will contest from the Namchi-Singhithang constituency in south Sikkim in the upcoming polls.

“Why should I change my constituency? I have been contesting from this seat for the past 40 years. It is for the eighth time that I will be contesting from Namchi,” he was quoted as saying by media reports.

Providing peace, security and a tranquil environment in the state had been the most significant achievement of the SDF government, the 68-year-old CM said while speaking at another event on Thursday.
