The scribes were allegedly assaulted by ‘drug peddlers’ in Sepahijala district on Sunday evening

Agartala: The Tripura government on Tuesday directed the state director general of police to probe the alleged assault on two journalists by suspected members of the drug mafia in Sepahijala district on Sunday evening.

While Dainik Sambad reporter Biplab Chakraborty was reportedly assaulted by miscreants when he was on his way to Sonamura in his personal vehicle, TV journalist Sadek Mia was beaten up after he tailed the vehicle in which the attackers of Chakraborty were travelling in.

When the vehicle stopped, the miscreants allegedly spotted Mia after which they started assaulting him.

As per Tripura Working Journalists' Association general secretary Debasish Majumder, Miah was attacked by unidentified miscreants who were reportedly inside the vehicle wearing army fatigue.

The miscreants were reportedly loading some drugs items on to a vehicle when Mia traced the vehicle. When they saw him approaching, they snatched his camera and thrashed him.

The police have registered a case in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Working Journalists' Association, in a written statement, claimed that Miah was targeted by a section of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and police involved in a drugs racket.
