Assam: ULFA(I) member held with arms and ammunition

The overground worker of the banned militant outfit was apprehended from Jagun village in Tinsukia district along Arunachal Pradesh border

Tinsukia: The 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles apprehended an ULFA(I) overground worker at Jagun village in Tinsukia district along the border with Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Based on specific intelligence received from local sources regarding his movement, security personnel apprehended the overground worker, identified as Kamal Mech (35), a resident of Phulbari of Tinsukia district.

One .22mm pistol with a magazine, live rounds, Chinese grenade and mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

After preliminary investigation, the ULFA(I) overground worker revealed that he had been an active worker for many years and has been assisting the insurgence outfit in recruitment and other support.

The arrested militant was handed over to police and an FIR has been lodged.
