Guwahati: In its move to strengthen the security cover of women passengers in the region, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has taken a significant step by launching an all-women squad in Guwahati.

A dedicated RPF women squad named 'Joymati Bahini', comprising women sub-inspectors and constables, was officially launched by BB Mishra, inspector general-cum-principal chief security commissioner of NF Railway at the Kamkhaya railway station.

The squad has been named after the courageous princess, Joymati, to have a constant motivating factor to be courageous, dedicated and perseverant at all times in the service to society.

“The main aim of the Joymati Bahini is to strengthen security around Guwahati region within railway premises and trains. The members of the Joymati Bahini started their duty by interacting with women passengers at the Guwahati and Kamkhya Railway station to provide and ensure foolproof security arrangements for women and children. Passengers are also being told to dial 182 immediately in case of any emergency on running trains or platforms. Their main focus area is to enhance women security by ensuring sanctity of reserved compartments, women compartments,” sources in the NF Railway said.
