Ruling party Sikkim Democratic Front declares that the scheme will be included in its manifesto ahead of Assembly elections this year; to implement it by 2022
Gangtok: Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) MP PD Rai has confirmed that the party will include Universal Basic Income (UBI) in its 2019 election manifesto which will be implemented after three years of coming to power.
The scheme will introduce unconditional direct cash transfer to citizens irrespective of their employment status.
Lok Sabha MP Rai has stated that the state wants to share the prosperity with its citizens. This, he said, has been fueled by successful implementation of hydro projects in the state by the government which has made Sikkim a power surplus state.
“Its the money of the people and should be utilised for them,” said Rai, who confirmed the news to EastMojo.
He further added that the process has already started in Sikkim with the idea to subsume other subsidies and allowances.
Adding further, Rai said that the amount of development Sikkim has witnessed this idea is not just feasible but also a positive idea towards the right direction.
