About 350 customers of Aboni Reang Para branch post office lodge FIR against accused
Agartala: The police have arrested the post master of the Aboni Reang Para branch post office in Udaipur subdivision of Tripura’s Gomati district for allegedly siphoning of over Rs 2 crore from saving accounts of customers.
Police sources said that about 350 customers of the Aboni Reang Para branch post office lodged separate FIRs against branch post master Kartik Roy (39) accusing him of siphoning off over Rs 2 crore from the saving accounts of customers. Subsequently, the police arrested him on Friday.
The matter came to light when Renu Miah, a customer, went on to withdraw an amount of Rs 95,000 from her savings’ account. But to her utter surprise, she found that there was no money in her account.
Later, it was allegedly found that the post master made about 500 fake passbooks and recorded all saving transactions in these books, which did not have proper records in the actual record books of the post office.
After the incident, over 300 customers gheraoed the Aboni Reang para branch post office and lodged separate FIRs against the errant post master for stealing their hard-earned money. The angry customers also staged a demonstration in front of the Radhakishorepur head post office. Later, the villagers withdrew their agitation and subsequently the accused was arrested.
During police interrogation, the accused has confessed to his involvement in the fraud.
