Foundation stone of the Northeast regional campus of the academy of fine arts laid by CM Biplab Kumar Deb at Nazrul Kalakshetra
Agartala: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb laid the foundation stone of the Northeast regional campus of Lalit Kala Akademi at the Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on Sunday.
The regional campus of the national academy of fine arts, the sixth such centre in India, will be built in Agartala providing opportunity to the artists of the Northeast region, the CM said.
While addressing the people, Deb said, “The government wants to develop the state from all aspects, including the art and culture, which was paralysed under the Left Front Government.”
“The government has offered a piece of land within the Kalakshetra campus to the Akademi and we are fortunate enough that 30 years after a center was set up in Bhubaneswar, now Tripura has been chosen for the north eastern regional centre in Agartala. This centre in Agartala will provide opportunity to all the artist who have the hunger to showcase their talents in the national platform,” chief minister said.
As a part of the event, the state government has organised a seven-day-long art exhibition-cum-workshop in which more than 100 artists from different places have taken part. A total of 102 artistes had gathered in the workshop, 51 artistes from various states and 51 students from the Tripura Art College had participated in the workshop.
Deb further said that the duty of the government is to show a direction to the people and they follow it accordingly. “It is because of the recently conducted International Tourism Mart that we have been contacted by more than 500 tourists from Karnataka to visit Tripura,” he added.
Participating in the programme, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, Prof VL Dharurkar, said that the Akademi along with the university will provide a platform to the artists of the state and the entire Northeast to showcase their talent.
