Itanagar: A long-pending demand of the Yobin community of Arunachal Pradesh has been fulfilled with the approval of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the community.

Chief minister Pema Khandu informed the members of the Yobin community that the state government has approved the Scheduled Tribe status and has been issuing ST certificates to the members of the community.

Participating in the Arunachal Rising Campaign at Vijaynagar in Changlang district, the state chief minister distributed the ST certificates to two Yobin community members.

“The matter is being taken up with the Centre for formal recognition,” he said.

The state chief minister also thanked the community for their contribution towards the country and for safeguarding its territory through their presence in such a remote area. For ex-servicemen and their families settled in Vijaynagar from Gorkha community during 1960s, the chief minister promised to issue PRC to them by January 1 next year.
