Justice Karol’s name was recommended following the elevation of Justice Ajay Rastogi as Supreme Court Judge
Agartala: Justice Sanjay Karol was sworn in as the new chief justice (CJ) of Tripura High Court on Wednesday. Justice Karol's name was recommended following the elevation of Justice Ajay Rastogi as Judge of the Supreme Court (SC).
Justice Karol took oath at the Durbar Hall of Old Raj Bhawan in the presence of governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and CM Biplab Kumar Deb, among other ministers and senior officials. He will take over as the CJ from Justice Subasish Talapatra, who was was in charge as the acting chief justice.
Enrolled as a lawyer in 1986, he was designated as a senior advocate in 1998. Justice Karol also served at the Himachal Pradesh High Court as its advocate general from 1998-2003.
The name of Chief Justice of Tripura High Court was cleared by the SC Collegium in a meeting presided over by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for the selection of judges. The meeting was attended by other top senior SC Judges Madan Lokur, Kurian Joseph, AK Sikri and SA Bobde.
