Imphal: Manipur Information and public relations (I&PR) minister Thongam Biswajit awarded financial assistance to six journalists from the state under the Manipur State Journalists’ Welfare Scheme on Wednesday.
The scheme was launched on June 30 last year by CM N Biren Singh as a part of the new government’s 100-day achievement programme.
While speaking to media persons, the minister said that the present government under Singh is trying to increase health, pension and ex gratia amounts for journalists in the state. Currently, a one-time amount of Rs 2 lakh as ex gratia is provided to the family of a deceased journalist and Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh is provided for medical treatment of journalists. A pension of Rs 4,000 is also provided to retired journalists in the state.
