Assam: Student killed after being hit by minister Himanta’s convoy

The victim, a sixth-semester student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences’ Guwahati campus, was riding his bike in the Bharalumukh area when the incident occurred

Guwahati: A student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences’ (TISS) Guwahati campus was killed after the bike he was riding on was hit by the escort vehicle of Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. The accident took place at Bharalumukh area of Guwahati between 12.30 and 1 am in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

“After the accident, the boy was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). But due to unavailability of an ICU bed, he was shifted to GNRC, a private hospital in Guwahati, where he breathed his last at 3:30 in the morning,” Panjit Borah, Additional DCP, traffic, Kamrup (Metro), told EastMojo.

The vehicle with registration number, AS 01 HC 8600, has been seized by the police. An FIR has been registered by the owner of the vehicle, who was not driving the car at the time of accident.

The victim, Anupam Chakma, was a sixth-semester student of TISS. He was allegedly riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a Bolero car that was part of the health minister’s convoy. The student hailed from Tripura and was residing in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Chakma’s aunt has arrived in Guwahati to receive the body.

In a similar incident involving a minister’s convoy, a woman, Minu Devi, was hit by a vehicle accompanying state minister Keshab Mahanta’s car in the Raha area of Nagaon district in December last year.
