SI Sukramoni Debbarma comes under fire for abetting the escape of driver and helper of truck loaded with 500 kg of dry cannabis worth over Rs 25 lakh
Agartala: A couple of days after EastMojo reported the seizure of a truck loaded with 500 kg of dry cannabis worth over Rs 25 lakh from the Churaibari check-post in North Tripura, a police officer has been suspended for abetting in the escape of the driver of the vehicle and his helper.
SI Sukramoni Debbarma was reportedly found to have links with the illegal traders of the contraband upon an investigation initiated by North Tripura SP Bhanu Pada Chakraborty after the incident. The SI was also allegedly found to have helped in the escape of the truck driver and his helper. The incident happened on November 2.
This is not the first time that a police officer has been found to be involved in the crime. On October 26, another sub-inspector Bimal Debbarma of the Bagma outpost in Gomati district was arrested for allegedly having links with traders of contraband items in the state. The residence of the policeman’s in-laws was also raided by the police in this regard, as per sources.
CM Biplab Kumar Deb’s ‘Nesha Mukta Tripura’ initiative has already taken the battle against drugs to the next level. As per reports, in the past seven months, over Rs 10 crore worth of contraband items have been seized from across the state.
