Guwahati: Close to three days after EastMojo reported an alleged fraud case involving Nagaland minister and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along, strong reactions have continued to pour in from various quarters.

Along was allegedly found fabricating land documents to secure a Rs 10-crore loan from SBI in Dimapur.

In a text message sent to EastMojo, Nagaland Congress president Kewekhape Therie condemned the act saying: “Allegations are serious and the chief minister should not remain silent for they reflect the people of Nagaland.”

Speaking exclusively to EastMojo, former chief minister of Assam and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi said, “Anybody who submits fabricated documents or commits fraud should be punished.”

Meanwhile, BJP leaders continued to dodge the issue. While refusing to comment on the matter, Assam BJP president Ranjit Das said: “Please ask Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the NEDA (North-East Democratic Alliance) convenor.”

The news was first reported by EastMojo on October 30. The alleged fraud was discovered by the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dimapur following a complaint lodged by Dimapur-based Bright Home Society. In an order dated October 8, the DC had asked the bank to surrender before it the ‘fabricated’ documents on or before October 22.

The order followed a summon that the DC served to both Along and the SBI branch in which they were asked to produce all the relevant documents in its original form on October 1 this year. Although both parties appeared and produced their respective documents, the bank representative could produce only the photocopy of the land documents, the order noted.

On authentication, the DC found that the documents (jamabandi and final mutation order) possessed by the bank were fabricated. At the same time, the originals of the said documents were found to be in possession of Bright Home Society’s Aier which, on authentication, were found to be genuine, the order noted.

The documents relating to the complaint and the DC order are in possession of EastMojo.
